Bridging Tech and Talent: How Auredia is Changing Manufacturing

By Jenny Manning, Director of Communications, NOV

Join me as we dive into the world of Auredia—not just as a cutting-edge AI-driven manufacturing solution, but as a tool built by and for the people who keep NOV running. In this episode of DNA of NOV, we uncover how Auredia is transforming the shop floor, not by replacing machinists, but by amplifying their voices and making every second count. From real-time problem-solving to fostering a culture of collaboration, this is the story of how technology and teamwork come together to shape the future of manufacturing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing often conjures images of fully automated production lines—machines seamlessly assembling parts with little to no human involvement. But at NOV, AI is taking on a different role, one that doesn’t replace people but amplifies their impact. Auredia, NOV’s proprietary AI-blockchain-based manufacturing solution, is a great example of how technology can empower rather than displace.

At its core, Auredia is about communication. It streamlines workflows, providing machinists, shop supervisors, and engineers with real-time data on machine statuses, delays, and resource needs. But what makes it exceptional isn’t just the software—it’s the people using it, improving it, and bringing it to life every day.

When Auredia was introduced, there was skepticism among employees. A digital platform collecting and reporting shop-floor data sounded, at first, like another layer of corporate oversight. It wasn’t until machinists started using it—seeing how it reduced delays and ensured their voices were heard—that they began to recognize its value.

Employees like Melinda Baltazar, a shop supervisor, use Auredia not as a top-down management tool but as a real-time communication hub. Instead of waiting for a manager to become available, a machinist can log an issue into Auredia, instantly notifying the necessary people and reducing downtime. And that downtime matters—not just for productivity but for the entire company’s financial health. Every minute a machine isn’t running, NOV loses money. Auredia helps make that visible, allowing teams to respond faster and make smarter decisions.

It's your voice. It's the voice of that person running that machine.

Ashe Menon

Senior Vice President - Manufacturing

Auredia’s success isn’t just a result of innovative technology—it’s a testament to the team behind it. From engineers and software developers to former welders and golf pros, the Auredia team is as diverse as it is driven. Ashe Menon, Senior Vice President for NOV’s Energy Products and Services segment, and Rachel Lemond, Director of Auredia Operations, built this team not by looking for the most polished resumes but by seeking out the right attitudes. They believe in hiring for attitude and training for skill, a philosophy that has allowed them to bring together individuals with unique backgrounds who all share a common goal: making manufacturing better.

This approach has led to remarkable results. Team members with backgrounds in forensic anthropology, aerospace engineering, hospitality and other fields have brought fresh perspectives to the industry.

Auredia works because it listens—to both machines and the people operating them. Every feature, every update comes from real-world feedback. The team doesn’t assume what machinists need; they ask them. They meet one-on-one, ensure every user understands the system, and adapt based on real experiences from the shop floor.

None of this would be possible without the machinists. Nothing. You would have nothing to look at today.

Rachel Lemond

Director of Auredia Operations

Auredia isn’t just software; it’s a reflection of the people who use it. The Auredia team embraces a different approach—Intelligence Augmentation (IA). Unlike traditional AI, which often focuses on removing humans from the process, IA enhances human intelligence rather than replacing it. This philosophy is embedded in Auredia’s name, ending in 'ia' as a nod to its mission of supporting and amplifying human expertise.

It’s the machinists who rely on it to keep their work running smoothly. It’s the engineers who tweak and refine it to make their colleagues’ jobs easier. It’s the shop supervisors who see its value in real time and champion its use.

…with Auredia and the app, this is life.

Melinda Baltazar

Machine Shop Supervisor

At the end of the day, Auredia isn’t about replacing humans with AI—it’s about using AI to enhance what humans do best: solve problems, collaborate, and innovate. And that’s what makes Auredia, and the team behind it, an essential part of NOV’s DNA.
